Austin is the state capital of Texas which is the second-largest state in the United States. This city is a growing and busy area for technologies and innovation. With so many computer industries and high technology corporations making their headquarters and offices in it, Austin adopted the nickname “The Silicone Hills”.
Education is something that Austin is also very popular of. There are many top universities and schools situated in this area. Its famous academic institution, the University of Texas in Austin was ranked 9th for best executive M.B. A. program for entrepreneurs while another university, Austin’s Acton School of Business was ranked 11th on the list according to The Princeton Review. Together with New Orleans and Raleigh, Austin was considered among the top three smartest cities in the US.
When it comes to leisure, the Austinites or the residents of Austin, have so many things to choose from. If it is arts and culture you wish to enjoy, there are the Texas Memorial Museum, the Texas State Capitol and the O. Henry House among the few. For natural sights, you may want to visit the Lady Bird Lake, the Zilker Botanical Garden, Mount Bonnell and Barton Creek Greenbelt. Austin is also famous for housing the largest populations of bats, the Mexican free-tailed bats, which can be observed under downtown’s Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge.
Famous festivals hosted by the city include the Pecan Street Festival, the South by Southwest festival, Austin City Limits Music festival, Halloween Night, Texas Relay Weekend and Trail of Lights. Austin is also known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, being home to many live bands, musicians and its vibrant live music scenes. “Keep Austin Weird” has been the local motto for the residents.
